However, in closed Facebook groups - which the social media giant has been criticized for not acting quickly enough - the descriptions of violence flowed, especially those directed at Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

As for example in the Facebook group “The people of Michigan vs.

Gov.

Whitmer ”, which has now been removed.

"We need an old honest lynch mob who can storm Congress, drag her tyrannical ass out into the street and hang her like our ancestors did," one man wrote.

Another man thinks that the proposal for a guillotine was not good.

"Old fashioned bullets work better, but I like the enthusiasm."

In Michigan, there is a kind of loosely organized movement, centered around patriotism, freedom and weapons, where from enthusiastic conservative parents of young children to almost anarchist militia members participate to varying degrees.

The "freedom worshipers" as I call them a bit carelessly have joint meetings, arrange weapons training and appear in various political contexts, not infrequently with their weapons.

And so they almost all support Donald Trump.

"Go to total war"

When the president began questioning the counting process and the election results earlier this week, I immediately thought I needed to go to Michigan.

For the "freedom worshipers" always listen carefully to the president.

They are also listening to the president's son, Donald Trump Jr., who wrote on Twitter yesterday that "the best thing for the future of the United States is for Donald Trump to go to total war over this election."

One of the first people I see on the spot outside the polling station in Detroit is a well-known person in militia circles in Michigan.

It gets rough between Trump supporters and Biden supporters on the spot and the police help to avert more serious incidents.

Later in the evening, the same groups have gathered again, this time with militiamen on one side.

"Of course it will be violent.

You are stealing an election from the President of the United States just here behind us ", says one of the militiamen, wearing military clothes, bulletproof vest, pistol, knife and helmet.

There will be no violence this time either.

But in Pennsylvania, several people were arrested on their way to the polling station, where they are suspected of having planned an attack on the place, and several weapons were seized.
