"Unfounded allegations"

"What is really disturbing is that the American head of state called for an end to the count in the middle of the presidential pageantry of the White House, that is to say with all the badges of power around. , because of his alleged victory. It was a flagrant abuse of power ", denounced the German deputy Michael Georg Link, coordinator of the international observers responsible for following the poll, in an interview with the German daily

Stuttgarter Zeitung

.

He also reiterated that the "accusations of Donald Trump's manipulation are baseless".

The OSCE had already spoken the day before "unfounded allegations" of the American president.

A risk of radicalization of American opinion

The OSCE now fears the long-term consequences in American opinion of the questioning of the electoral process, with a risk of radicalization.

“The main concern is that the United States is failing to get rid of the ghosts that Trump was invoking,” said Michael Georg Link.

According to the specialist, "even if he admits his defeat and returns his function as it should, his supporters, incited by rhetoric, could consider violence as a legitimate tool because they no longer feel represented democratically".

And to warn: it is "a danger which will persist well beyond election day".

With its 57 members, including the United States, Russia, Turkey and all the countries of Europe, the OSCE is one of the rare forums for dialogue between the West and the former Soviet countries.

In addition to her electoral monitoring missions, she was notably in charge of a mission in the conflict in Ukraine.
