The Director of the Senior Citizens Department at the Authority, Maryam Al Hammadi, told "Emirates Today" that the authority is keen to follow up the senior citizens in Dubai from the health point of view, and to educate them about the methods and methods of proper nutrition, and daily life practices that must include walking and other exercises, until In addition to exposure to the sun, and being outside in the fresh air, especially in the morning and before bedtime.

She added that the members of the authority's volunteer teams are working to ensure the stability of the health status of senior citizens and residents through constant communication with them, pointing to the provision of the required treatment for them, and to conduct the necessary medical and laboratory examinations, periodically, to ensure the stability of their condition, in case any information is received from them, or From their caregivers, you indicate symptoms that are sick to them.

She affirmed that the authority will continue working to complete the system of protection, support and empowerment for senior citizens and residents, pointing to the launch of the "hotline" last July to support and protect them.

Specialized scientific research indicates that positivity, open-mindedness, love and continued physical activity are the most important factors that help a person maintain good health as he grows old, if he has an advanced medical system and a social base of love and incubator for the elderly.

Studies also confirm that medical development will enable humans in the future to live for a longer period, extending for more than 100 years.

The "hotline" receives calls from senior citizens and residents, or those who care for them, around the clock, in both Arabic and English languages, including requests for support and inquiries related to health, legal and social services.

The "hotline" also receives reports of violations and requests for protection. Specialists in the field of caring and protection of the elderly supervise the handling of inquiries and reports to intervene and provide support and assistance, in cooperation with the concerned authorities.

The authority had started a database project for senior citizens and residents, during the Corona pandemic, within the framework of the “We Communicate and Protect” initiative, through which their social and health data and places of residence were collected and their needs identified, which provided a broader picture of the procedures and programs that must be adopted to complete the system of protection and care. .

Al-Hammadi pointed to several facts that researchers have reached through various studies, including that centenarians often have flexibility in dealing with different situations in life, and a tendency to calm.

They are also less nervous, more open to differing opinions, and more willing to accept and discuss others.

Al-Hammadi added that the latest statistics issued by the authority show that the number of people registered with it, who are over 90 years old, has reached 231 elderly.

The number of persons between the ages of 70 and 90 years is about 3,823 elderly, which represents about 43% of the total number of citizens and residents registered in the authority’s system.

It is noteworthy that the authority launched a program to establish gardens in the homes of senior citizens, based on scientific reports that confirmed that working in agriculture and landscaping had an effect on improving the mood and psychological state of the human being in general, and for the elderly in particular.
