The toll of the pandemic once again exceeded the mark of 400 deaths in 24 hours on Tuesday, with 426 deaths from Covid-19 in hospital, to which are added 428 deaths recorded in four days in nursing homes.

Since the start of the epidemic, Covid-19 has killed 38,289 people in France, according to the latest official report.

An essential indicator of the pressure on the hospital system, which the re-containment, which entered into force in France on October 30, aims to limit, the number of seriously ill patients in intensive care units was on Tuesday 3,869, for some 6,400 beds currently available.

A hardening of the containment?

Faced with these figures, the President of the Republic convened on Wednesday

epidemic

.

Will the French executive choose to toughen this re-containment?

More restrictive measures are on the table, such as a possible "curfew" in Paris or in the Paris region, announced prematurely on Tuesday by government spokesman Gabriel Attal.

A resounding quack that followed the controversy and government flip-flops in France on the opening of shops - local or large distribution, then product by product.

Controversy that generated a sling of dozens of mayors who defied government decisions in different regions and took orders to authorize the reopening of stores.

A state of health emergency limited to December 14

The impression of disorder was reinforced by an incident in the National Assembly.

The oppositions

succeeded overnight in passing an amendment

providing that the confinement decreed from October 30 can only be renewed beyond November 30 after Parliament's agreement.

And they also managed to limit the extension of the state of health emergency to December 14, when the government wanted it to be extended in mid-February.

However, it is precisely this exceptional regime that makes it possible to drastically restrict travel or to confine the population.

But the majority deputies found themselves in the minority on the benches.

The government is examining this Wednesday, November 4 the options to restore an extension of the state of health emergency until February 16.

The debates on the state of health emergency resume at 3 p.m. this Wednesday at the Palais-Bourbon.

The government has no shortage of weapons

" to restore the text in the direction it wishes, notes a parliamentary source.

He could "

look at the state of the forces present in the hemicycle, that can be decided at the last moment

 ".

The final adoption of the text, scheduled for Friday after examination by the Senate on Thursday, could finally take place on Saturday because of these adventures.
