China News Service, November 4th. According to the South American Overseas Chinese News Network, the Peruvian Institute of Geophysics (IGP) said on November 2 that as of now, Peru has had 675 earthquakes in 2020, with a maximum magnitude of 5.7 on the Richter scale.

According to reports, IGP Executive Chairman Hernando Tavira said that of the earthquakes reported in Peru in 2020, about 70% occurred in coastal areas, and the rest occurred within the mainland.

In addition, the coastal areas between Tumbes and Tacna are at the highest risk of major earthquakes.

Tavira also said: "It is estimated that by the end of 2020, there will be about 800 earthquakes in Peru. I hope that we will not have a major earthquake like Turkey and other countries."

Peru is located on the Pacific Rim seismic belt. Approximately 85% of the world's earthquakes occur here. Tavira reminds the public to be prepared for any possible situation.

In addition, he also called on the public to inspect the safety of houses so as to ensure personal safety in the event of an earthquake.

It is reported that one of the most impressive earthquakes in Peru was the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Chimbote, the country's largest fishing port, on May 31, 1970, which killed approximately 70,000 people.
