The PP requests the urgent appearance of Marlaska to explain who is behind the riots

Three former ministers of the PP have begun to establish the

Purpose Foundation

, a laboratory of ideas focused on "sustainable development", which will focus on the protection of the environment, social economic growth and the promotion of equality, from a liberal approach and center-right.

The main promoters - who have already started the constitution procedures - are Josep Piqué, former Minister of Foreign Affairs (2000-2002) and of Science and Technology (2002-2003);

Juan Costa

, former Minister of Science and Technology (2003-2004);

and

Abel Matutes

, former Foreign Minister (1996-2000).

This has been confirmed by EL MUNDO sources from the Foundation itself.

The three former ministers carried their portfolios during the governments of José María Aznar, and now they have returned to be close to the orbit of Pablo Casado.

Not surprisingly, the goal of Purpose is to serve as a "center-right think tank."

In other words, especially from the PP.

And it so happens that both Matutes and Piqué are patrons of the

Faes

foundation

.

The President of Purpose will be

Juan Costa,

who has served as CEO of Climate Change and Sustainable Economy of the E&Y company worldwide.

But the most relevant political news about the creation of this foundation is the signing of

José Manuel Villegas

, former secretary general of Ciudadanos.

The one who was

Albert Rivera's

right-hand man comes

to this think tank related to the PP because of his closeness to Teodoro García Egea, with whom he negotiated the regional pacts that resulted in four PP-Citizens coalition governments:

Castilla y León, Murcia, Madrid and Andalusia

.

The general secretary of the PP is the one who has tied up his landing, according to sources from the foundation, although they emphasize that they are born from "civil society", without acronyms.

Of course, it must be remembered that the popular wanted to integrate Villegas into their project to "recast" the center-right, after he ran out of a seat in the November 2019 elections.

Villegas

left the leadership of Ciudadanos after that electoral debacle of the orange formation, which went from having 57 to 10 national deputies.

Born in 1968 in

Barcelona

, this lawyer was the head of the Citizens' strategy and director of all the national electoral campaigns of the formation since 2015. After leaving politics, he signed in March of this year through the office of Albert Rivera,

Martínez -Echevarría & Rivera

.

He is vice president of the firm.

José Manuel Villegas.ÁNGEL NAVARRETE

The Villegas movement joins the party's march, last week, by

Patricia Reyes

, Xavier Pericay -one of the party's founders- and figures from the critical training sector such as

Orlena de Miguel

or

Saúl Ramírez

.

As for the

PP

, although the Purpose Foundation does not depend on the party like the Concordia y Libertad Foundation (or, before, Faes),

Pablo Casado

has an opportunity to substantiate his distance from Vox.

Not surprisingly, the green flank and sustainability is one of those that can differentiate the two formations the most.

Once the emotional ties with Vox have been broken, the PP wants to begin to broaden its bases with issues such as those that the Purpose Foundation will deal with, the sources consulted say.

This means that the PP will rely on this entity "to respond to the current challenges of society" without it being the left that "monopolizes" the environmental flags.

The Purpose Foundation wants to have a clear international vocation, according to its promoters.

Of the people who are going to participate in the project,

Jan-Peter Balkenende

(former Dutch Prime Minister for eight years),

Juan Gabriel Uribe

(former Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development of Colombia),

Míriam González

(lawyer at the firm Cohen Gresser) stand out. and wife of the former Deputy Prime Minister of Great Britain

Nick Clegg

),

Carolina Martínez-Caro

(Julius Baer Spain country manager),

Pablo Adrián

(Head of Economy and Business in the Ibero-American General Secretariat) or

Alejandra Castro Rioseco

(founder of the NGO Mujer Opina ).

The intention of the team led by

Juan Costa

is to have an “even more international” Advisory Council, focused on sustainability and the inclusive economy.

"The Purpose Foundation was born to work for a world where development and prosperity are inclusive, where the economy of knowledge and innovation are defended, the ecological capital of the planet is protected and progress is made in reducing social inequalities," they say foundation sources.

Purpose wants to go against some "mantras" traditionally associated with sustainability, according to its promoters.

For example, against the "patrimonialization" of the fight against the environment that, in his opinion, is being carried out by a sector of the left.

“It is usually said that economic capitalism was not entirely compatible with the protection of the environment.

And the point of view of the foundation is just the opposite: increase ecological prosperity and increase social cohesion »from a« market freedom »vision, point out sources close to

Juan Costa

.

“The best way to enhance growth is to encourage environmental protection.

Green capital is vital to the economy, "they add.

Purpose is born with a "commitment to consensus."

In other words, with the return to political harmony, and from there, to social harmony.

"The most important asset of the economy today is social capital: we need a society that creates in its institutions in order to broaden social consensus, which is key."

This foundation projects its activity with a plan structured in four lines of action: «Social awareness and awareness, the structuring of stable spaces for public-private meetings and collaboration, the training of leaders and social referents and the study and prospective analysis on issues of interest".

In other words, the former ministers of

Aznar

and the rest of the employers not only seek to constitute a laboratory of ideas, but they also intend to play an active role as a link between companies and administrations.

«It is urgent to connect science with politics so that knowledge inspires decisions.

(...) Combine, along with financial capital, new resources such as human and intangible capital, natural capital and social capital ».

In the founding principles of Purpose it is emphasized that "growth must be linked to environmental protection and promotion."

"Faced with sweeping progress, progress that advances, where dialogue about ideas exemplifies respect for the environment."

Why?

Because "the global economy faces an unprecedented crossroads: increasing inequality in advanced societies, the environmental crisis and climate change, the growing demand for food and energy resources, or the advance of an increasingly intangible economy" .

In this green approach, it is where most want to differentiate Purpose from Faes, another center-right foundation close to the

popular ones

.

And with which you want to be complementary and not a competitor.

Casado will propose "to open the PP more to society" after the break with Vox

The consequences of the emotional rupture of the PP with Vox have resonated strongly in the last two weeks of the political news.

The loud slam of Pablo Casado to Santiago Abascal has rarefied the budget negotiations in Andalusia, has supported the course of some barons and has started a path without turning back for the 'popular'.

Pablo Casado will have an impact on this path today before the regional presidents of the PP.

The barons, who have applauded their turnaround in Vox's motion of censure, will hear them bet on "opening the PP more to society," according to sources in Genoa.

It is the "natural" movement, they say, after leaving behind the hindrance of looking "sideways" at those of Santiago Abascal, as summarized by Cristóbal Montoro on Sunday in an interview with this newspaper.

The president of the PP will preside at 12:00 hours the meeting of the National Executive Committee, which is held electronically at the party headquarters.

Since the speech in which Casado cut ties with Vox, the 'popular' have begun to accentuate their distancing, and even bet on reaching out to the PSOE in economic matters in some of the communities they govern.

Both in Andalusia and in Castilla y León, the national leadership of the PP supports the attempt to seek understandings with the Socialists regarding the regional budgets of 2021. The Andalusian president, Juan Manuel Moreno, has already ordered PSOE and Adelante Andalucía to present proposals for regional accounts, which has cost Vox to stand for the second time in the negotiations.

The first was after hearing Casado's speech on the motion, precisely.
