With over 75% abstention

, this historic record is in the form of a disavowal for President Abdelmadjid Tebboune,

still hospitalized abroad

.

The opposition, embodied since February 2019 by the so-called "Hirak" movement, had indeed called for a boycott of the vote on Sunday.

For the Algerian sociologist Fatma Ousseddik, this abstention is one more message addressed to the leaders of the country: “

The Hirak is not dead, that is the proof.

I think that the rates that we have been able to observe are the indicator of the maintenance of these demands, that is to say its demand for profound change, and that there is no point in running desperately like that towards the past. , as the leaders are trying to do, while there is a demand for the future that is posed by society, a demand for changes and a real possibility of finally hearing this population that cries and does not want to see her children continue to die in the sea.

 "

And Fatma Ousseddik returns to the very date chosen for this election.

“

As for the choice of the date of this referendum, the Algerian population was extremely shocked that this referendum was set for November 1, which is a founding date of the nation.

I think she did not want this to be an event,

 ”said the sociologist.
