Still involved in the US presidential election even after his death.

The obituary of Barry Kreiter, an American who died on October 25 at 63, contains a call to vote against Trump on Tuesday.

"You can make donations to help oust Donald Trump" and "elect Democrats on November 3," said the obituary, written by the daughter of the deceased.

She and her mother made the decision to include a political message in the text, in tribute to the activism of their father and husband, who campaigned for Joe Biden by phone in his spare time.

"Please don't vote for Biden"

For Kay Powell, former obituary editor for

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

, this phenomenon dates back to 1996, when Bill Clinton faced off against Bob Dole.

“Writing a family death notice is an art form in America,” says Kay Powell.

Families can write whatever they want, and they do.

In 2020, as the polling date approached, funeral tributes to the air of political forums increased.

Rather than bringing flowers, "do not vote for Mr. Joseph R. Biden Jr. please" thus proclaims the obituary of a certain Patricia Wiggins, who died on September 8.

A "sincere and faithful reflection of their life"

Others tackle the president's management of the pandemic.

"The responsibility for this death [...] rests with Trump [...] and all the politicians who have not taken this pandemic seriously", laments Stacey Nagy, whose husband died at 79 years of age from the Covid -19 in July.

“People want their obituaries and obituaries to be a true and true reflection of their life and who they were,” says Powell.

"If having a strong political commitment was part of it, it's normal that it is included, in the same way as if they liked dogs or watching birds.

It's constitutive of who they were.
