With 129 deaths, 6,970 contaminations since last March and 90% remission, Cuba has very low figures compared to its Latin American neighbors.

The coronavirus epidemic appears to be under control on the island.

Cubans can therefore go back to school with a fairly strict hygiene protocol for the students.

Uniforms once again invaded the streets of Havana.

Red shorts, white shirt and blue scarf, Jordan is delighted with his first day at school after more than seven months without a class.

"

I'm happy, it makes me happy to be able to play with my friends again and to study!"

 », He rejoices.

A mask to change every three hours

And to complete the uniform, Jordan, 8, wears a mandatory mask in Cuba for everyone, which he must change during his school day every three hours.

Distancing and hygiene measures were also taken in the classes.

The parents of the students don't really have anything to worry about, they are also rather relieved, like Irayne.

They don't even let us into the school as a precaution,

” she explains.

They do what they can, but hey, we, the parents, it allows us to breathe a bit because we have other things to do.

We have to work.

 "

A rhythm hard to resume

Until the end of November, all students resume the course they left in March, before starting a new school year in December.

But after seven months of classes at home, mainly via television, the pace is hard to pick up and the students feel late.

“

We lost eight months, laments Talia, a high school student.

We studied with tele-classes, but it's not the same being at home as having a teacher supervising you in class.

 "

We were also sent the lessons by WhatsApp and social networks but here the internet is very expensive, and it was quite stressful to study

 ", adds Miguel.

The majority of students in the country have now returned to school as

Cuba has averaged 50 new cases

of Covid-19 per day in recent weeks.
