The Algerian student, described as "cold" and "distant" by the general counsel, welcomed the prosecution's indictment without reacting.

The Advocate General has called for sentences of more than 20 years' imprisonment against two other defendants, considered to be "logisticians" who provided weapons and equipment to Sid-Ahmed Ghlam.

She thus requested 30 years of imprisonment, including a two-thirds security period against Rabah Boukaouma and 25 years of imprisonment (including two-thirds of security) against Farid Brahami.

"We always spoke wrongly about the failed attack in Villejuif. This attack made a victim and it was Aurélie Châtelain," said the general counsel.

Having pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group, Sid-Ahmed Ghlam, 29, planned to carry out an attack against one or two churches in Villejuif.

Along the way, he is accused of having killed a 32-year-old mother, probably to steal her car.

He renounced his attack after allegedly accidentally injuring his leg with the murder weapon.

Throughout his trial he denied having intended to commit an attack against parishioners and assassinated Aurélie Châtelain.

The defense will speak Tuesday and Wednesday.

the verdict is expected Thursday.
