Local authorities said a shooting took place in several places in the Austrian capital city center in Vienna on the afternoon of the 2nd (local time), killing two people, including one suspect, and wounding 15 others.

According to the Associated Press and Reuters, the police in Vienna reported on Twitter that the shooting resulted in "one dead and several injured, including one police officer."

“One suspect was shot and killed by the police,” and urged citizens to avoid public places and public transportation.

Austria's APA news agency cited an official from the Ministry of the Interior, saying one suspect was killed and another was on the run.

Interior Minister Karl Nehamer appeared on the local public broadcaster ORF and said the suspects were armed with rifles, saying, "In the current situation, this shooting seems obvious terror."

He said several suspects, who appear to have been involved in terrorism, are on the run and that an arrest operation is underway.

"Several special forces are searching for people who are suspected of being terrorists," he said. "Because the suspects are on the move, we won't limit the search to Vienna."

Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig said 15 people were hospitalized and 7 people were seriously injured in the case.

Prime Minister Sebastian Kurtz also tweeted that a "horrible terrorist attack" took place in Vienna and that troops will be deployed on the scene so police can focus on counter-terrorism operations.

"We are experiencing a difficult time," he said. "Our police will take decisive action against the perpetrators of terrorist attacks."

"We are happy that our police can neutralize one of the attackers," he said. "We will never be afraid of terror."

Foreign media reported that the shooting took place at around 8 pm on the 2nd of local time in 6 places in the city center of Vienna.

It happened just a few hours before entering into partial containment to prevent the spread of Corona 19.

The Austrian government plans to ban traffic and close cultural and leisure facilities from 8 pm to 6 am the next day from the 3rd to the end of this month.

An official from the Jewish community in Vienna said on Twitter that the attack took place on the streets of the synagogue, but it is not clear whether the synagogue was the target.

The Korean Embassy in Austria said that there is no damage to Koreans to date.

At the same time, he informed the Koreans that he had asked them to evacuate to a safe place and wait until the case was over.
