The one-meter rule takes effect immediately, but first the staff must take note of what applies.

- We are creating routines around it and will hopefully be ready in the afternoon, says Elsa Bengtsson, medically responsible nurse in Tingsryd municipality.

Wants to prevent infection in elderly care

The reason for the changed routines is that Region Kronoberg is currently seeing that the number of confirmed infections by Covid-19 is increasing in the county.

With the new stricter routines, the region hopes to be able to prevent the spread of infection in elderly care.

Routines for visor use

However, it is important now to work out how the visor should be handled, as one meter instead of 30 centimeters entails a change in working methods.

- We work on routines for safe handling of the visor.

Previously, the staff had a visor that was tied to a certain care recipient, but now it carries a visor in public areas and when feeding, for example, says Elsa Bengtsson.

The hope is that staff in elderly care during the week will be able to take part in the new routines.

The new routines are something that all medically responsible nurses in Kronoberg together with the infection control in the region have agreed on.
