All over France, hospitals are facing a new wave of Covid-19 patients.

To the point of having to deprogram certain surgeries.

"In five years, we will see the results of these delays," warns Céline Lis-Raoux, founder of the Rose association which helps women affected by breast cancer, Monday on Europe 1.

INTERVIEW

Faced with the new wave of Covid-19, hospitals are filling up everywhere in France.

Increasingly, these establishments are focusing primarily on Covid-19 patients to the detriment of others.

Unprogrammed operations, undetected cancers, discontinued treatments ... The list of trade-offs that can reduce the chances of survival of other patients is growing.

"The ARS (Regional Health Agencies), since last Friday, have started to give hospitals orders to deprogram surgeries. In five years, we will see the results of these delays", warns Céline Lis-Raoux, founder of the association Rose, Monday on Europe 1.

An open platform to help women affected by breast cancer

Consequence: its structure, which helps women affected by breast cancer, has opened a platform to help these patients raise the alarm.

"We had about fifty declarations this weekend for operations which were scheduled for Monday," says the association manager.

"We called the women on Friday to cancel cancer surgeries on Monday, so two days before. Can you imagine the violence of that?"

"Six months late for surgery"

Céline Lis-Raoux describes the profile of these patients who have to undergo major surgeries.

"There, we are talking about women who have a breast removed. These are women who have cancers linked to BRCA, this gene that predisposes you to breast cancer," she says.

"Among these women, there is one who has already had her first ablation canceled during the first confinement. She was rescheduled and she has just been canceled again. It's six months behind in surgery!"
