Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin announced on Monday that he was coming to Tunisia and Algeria on a “weekend” to address the issue of the fight against terrorism and the return of “radicalized” foreigners.

"I'm leaving at the end of the week", said the minister on BFMTV, questioned after the attack on the basilica of Nice on Thursday which left three dead and whose alleged perpetrator is a 21-year-old Tunisian, who arrived shortly before in France .

The objective of this trip is "to discuss with my counterparts from the Ministry of the Interior and with the intelligence services, to exchange views for more information," added Gerald Darmanin.

A next trip to Russia

"The President of the Republic had his counterparts to be able to agree on the dismissal of a certain number of people who have the nationality of these countries and who are mistaken for radicalization in our country", he said. added.

The Elysee Palace announced Sunday evening that President Macron had asked Gerald Darmanin to visit Tunisia.

"We have expelled 16 people mistaken for radicalizations", for a month, he said.

He also mentioned a trip to Russia "in the coming days" to discuss these issues.
