The death of Qatari rally champion Sheikh Hamad bin Eid Al Thani was met with widespread interaction on social media.

The Qatar Automobile and Motorcycle Federation issued a statement clarifying the circumstances of the death of the Qatari driver, which came after his withdrawal from the fourth round of the local "Albaha" championship that was held today in Dukhan.

The federation said - in a statement yesterday, Saturday, that Sheikh Hamad started the first stage of the race, but decided to withdraw from the competition after the start of the first stage and return to the maintenance area, and his condition was very normal.

The statement added that Sheikh Hamad accompanied one of his friends in his private car to watch the rest of the race stages, but he suffered a fainting state and lost consciousness, and his friend informed the organizing committee and returned him to the rally headquarters immediately.

The statement indicated that the medical team assigned to the rally quickly dealt with the case, and gave him first aid at the rally headquarters in Dukhan area, before he was transferred to the Cuban Hospital, where he passed away.

The Qatar Automobile and Motorcycle Federation mourned Sheikh Hamad bin Eid Al Thani, one of the most prominent Qatari drivers throughout history.

Sheikh Hamad bin Eid Al Thani is one of the most prominent rally drivers in Qatar and the Gulf region, winning many local and international titles.

Qatari media, journalists and motorsports fans mourned the Qatari driver on the communication sites and praised his qualities and sports record.

Journalist Jaber Al-Harami tweeted, "He was an honorable model and an international ambassador for rallying in Qatar."

As for the singer Muhammad Al-Mansoori, he said that he "had a good heart and an elegant smile, and he loved everyone."

For her part, writer Reem Al-Harami tweeted, "Sheikh Hamad bin Eid always accompanied the father, he used to call him the big brother, but recently he apologized for his preoccupation with training ... the father is still listening to his voice messages that he sent days ago."
