01 November 2020 "Only if it were decided to close everything should the school be sacrificed. But if we continue to proceed gradually, it would be the last to have to submit to the lockdown".

Alberto Villani, pediatrician of the Bambino Gesù and member of the CTS (scientific technical committee) says this in an interview with the 'Corriere della Sera'.

"The school - he explains - is not a source of positive cases and outbreaks. The infections did not develop in the classroom but in the external environment. It is the safest place, here the rules are fully respected because there are those in charge of making them. And if even a child with Sars-CoV-2 infection enters the classroom it is very difficult for him to transmit the virus to his classmates since he is wearing a mask, he is obliged to wash his hands and stay at a distance ".

And he adds: "Closing it would mean depriving the children of a controlled place where they can meet without risking contagion. And then elementary and middle school children are the best at respecting the rules, much more than adults".
