Sudan and Morocco denied today their intention to impose a complete closure to confront the emerging Corona virus pandemic, and while the French government faces resistance from dozens of municipalities to tighten precautionary measures to overcome the second wave of the outbreak, Iran is experiencing a third wave of the disease, with record numbers of deaths recorded.

Today, the Sudanese government denied its intention to impose a closure on the country or take additional precautionary measures to limit the spread of the Corona pandemic, after some local newspapers reported the presence of a government approach to return to a partial or total closure to face a second wave of the virus.

A statement by the Sudanese Cabinet stated that "rumors have increased about the health situation and the number of cases in Corona," adding that the Supreme Committee for Health Emergencies is the only authority concerned with decisions and procedures related to the Corona epidemic.

On September 16, the Sudanese authorities lifted a health ban that included the country after a 6-month closure, and as of Friday, the country had recorded 13,819 injuries, including 837 deaths.

In Morocco, the government denied the authorities ’intention to re-impose a comprehensive quarantine on social media, in light of the continued high numbers of people infected and dead due to the pandemic since last August.

A Moroccan government statement stated that what some people promoted of a press statement claiming that a cabinet convened this morning to ratify the decision to reinstate the quarantine is "a lie and unfounded fabrication."

Since last June, the Moroccan authorities have eased the quarantine measures that have been in place since March 20, and the reduction included the opening of government institutions and a number of mosques in the various regions of the Kingdom. As of Saturday evening, Morocco had recorded 219 thousand and 84 injuries, including 3695 deaths.

Resistance in France

In France, Reuters reported that Paris’s decision to return, since last Friday, to a general closure to confront the second wave of the outbreak met with opposition from the heads of 50 cities and towns, as they issued local decrees allowing commercial stores to remain open, and Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo said she would also remain. Libraries are open.

On the other hand, French Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire today described these measures as irresponsible and as a threat to health.

But Minister Le Maire promised to provide 100 million euros (116 million dollars) to help French small companies provide their services via the Internet. "Amazon should not be the biggest winner from this crisis at the expense of local stores," the French minister added in statements to a TV station.

According to a Reuters count, the total number of people infected with the virus in France is one million and 367 thousand, while more than 36,788 have died from the disease.

Resisting the return of restrictions imposed in some European countries took a violent turn, as the Spanish police arrested dozens of people during confrontations in several cities following demonstrations organized for the second night in a row, to protest against the restrictions imposed to stop the rapid spread of the Corona virus.

The most intense confrontations took place in Madrid, where many demonstrators chanted "freedom", setting fire to garbage containers and setting up roadblocks on a main street in central Madrid.

Iran situation

On the other hand, the Iranian government has closed schools, mosques, shops and restaurants in most parts of the country in order to confront a third wave of the outbreak of the pandemic.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said yesterday that the new restrictions will take effect tomorrow, Wednesday, in 25 of the 31 provinces for a period of 10 days.

And the Iranian Ministry of Health announced that the daily death toll from Corona has reached a record level of 434 deaths, and the head of the Iranian Medical Council, Muhammad Reza Zafar Gandhi, said that the actual number of deaths is at least three times higher than the official number.

According to the Ministry of Health, the number of virus deaths has reached 35,298 so far in the country most affected by the virus in the Middle East, and the ministry said that the number of confirmed cases of the virus has risen to more than 620,000.

"The official number of deaths depends only on the number of registered patients ... Through a field survey in hospitals and cemeteries, our council got a number that is at least three times higher than the official number of deaths," Gandhi told the Iranian Students Agency.

It is noteworthy that the number of people infected with the virus from different parts of the world exceeded the ceiling of 46 million, while the total deaths resulting from the virus reached more than one million and 195 thousand.

The new virus appeared for the first time in Wuhan, central China, in December 2019, and the United States tops the list of global hotspots, followed by India and Brazil.
