Impressive images.

So much so that Yannis Carlos made a video of it.

This Thursday at the end of the afternoon, this amateur photographer immortalized from the sea the collapse of an enormous section of cornice after the passage of the giant wave Belharra near Urrugne in the Basque Country.

A few hours earlier, dozens of onlookers had thronged the cliff to admire the strong swell caused after Hurricane Epsilon passed through the Atlantic.

What makes Philippe Aramendi, the mayor of the town, say on France Bleu, "that we have come close to disaster, we have avoided a human tragedy".

Indeed, the cornice has collapsed over several meters a few cables from a very popular point of view as can be seen in the images.

Very quickly, the site managed by the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department was secured in particular by the municipal police.

Access to the public is now prohibited.
