Faced with the scale of the "second wave" of the coronavirus epidemic, the executive decided this week on a new confinement, in force since Friday morning.

For the first time this weekend, the French are therefore called to stay at home, only going out for specific reasons.

For the first time since spring, you will need to bring a certificate again to go out this weekend, for whatever reason.

Faced with the scale of the "second wave" of the coronavirus epidemic, Emmanuel Macron announced a new one-month confinement, which entered into force on Friday and whose outlines were specified by Jean Castex and members of the government on Thursday.

What you can do

The same as during the first confinement.

 In general, as in spring, exemptions are possible for shopping - including in garden centers this time -, going to the doctor ... but also taking the air for "one hour maximum" and in "a radius one kilometer from home ".

The parks, gardens, forests and beaches remain open for those who reside near these spaces. 

Visiting a loved one in an nursing home

"To prevent the human tragedies that we experienced in the spring from arising, that lonely people at the end of their lives find themselves totally isolated, visits to retirement homes and nursing homes will be authorized this time, with strict respect health rules, "Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday evening.

Returning from vacation, or picking up your children

The police are invited to be flexible this weekend, to allow the French who went on vacation for All Saints' Day to return home calmly or to pick up children dropped off with relatives, for example.

This tolerance must last until Sunday evening.

If gatherings are prohibited, places of worship nevertheless remain open for this new confinement.

"A tolerance will be applied for the ceremonies planned this weekend of All Saints, as well as for trips to cemeteries and flower shops," said Jean Castex. 

Go to the market in your neighborhood

Food markets generally remain open (unless the prefect decides otherwise).

Stores deemed non-essential (including bars and restaurants) are closed, but home delivery is still possible.

Watch a football game on TV

If amateur sport is once again at a standstill, professional competitions can continue - behind closed doors - during this new period of confinement.

Ligue 1 fans, for example, will therefore not be deprived of football this weekend. 

What you can't do

Buy books at the bookstore.

 Cinemas, theaters but also bookstores will remain closed for the duration of the confinement, which prompted the jury of Goncourt and Interallié to postpone their prizes which were to be awarded on November 10 and 18.

“Click and collect” services may however be set up by booksellers and record stores. 

Play soccer with your friends.

As during the first confinement, sports halls and gymnasiums are closed, and outdoor team sports prohibited. 

Change place of containment, or travel to another region.

 It will not be possible "to travel within the national territory, including from a main residence to a secondary residence", Prime Minister Jean Castex indicated, specifying that "a fixed fine of 135 euros" would still be applied "in the event of non-compliance with confinement".
