A man suffering from morbid obesity and stranded at his home in Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales) for several months has filed a complaint against X, believing that his life was in danger if he is not quickly evacuated, his lawyer said on Saturday.

The association of the National League against Obesity is associated with the complaint of Alain Panabière for "non-assistance to person in danger" and "failure to bring help to person in danger".

The man, aged 53 and weighing more than 300 kg, according to his lawyer Me Jean Codognès, lives in a house "stricken with unsanitary conditions", in the heart of the popular Saint-Jacques district, in the historic center of the city Catalan.

He "fell at his home in July 2019 and probably broke a leg," he said.

The demolition of the facade necessary to evacuate it

Me Codognès had sent a letter to the Minister of the Interior Gerald Darmanin at the end of October, warning him of "the urgency of an intervention".

In the complaint addressed to the public prosecutor's office on Friday, which AFP consulted, the lawyer recalls that the services of the Departmental Council, the prefecture of the Pyrénées-Orientales, as well as the Regional Health Agency (ARS) are aware of the situation of his client.

At the beginning of August, Alain Panabière had approved an evacuation agreement, which requires the destruction of the facade of the building to remove it from its accommodation, but nothing is moving.

“The firefighters tell me they are just waiting for orders.

But my client is seriously weakened, reports a cardiac pathology.

He reports bedsores, tells me he's bleeding.

It is a very complicated situation in terms of health ”, indignant his lawyer.
