  The income and consumption situation during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period shows that in the past few years, the income of Chinese residents has continued to grow. From 2016 to 2019, the average annual per capita disposable income of residents increased by 6.5%; the gap between urban and rural areas has gradually narrowed. The ratio of per capita disposable income of rural residents was 2.64, a decrease of 0.09 from 2015; the size of the middle-income group expanded, from more than 100 million in 2010 to more than 400 million in 2019.

At the same time, the scale of household consumption continued to expand.

The total retail sales of consumer goods in 2019 reached 41.2 trillion yuan, an increase of 36.9% over 2015; the consumption structure has also been continuously optimized, and the Engel coefficient (the proportion of household food expenditure in total expenditure) has dropped from 30.6% in 2015 to 28.2 in 2019 %, this reflects the upgrading of the consumption structure.

New consumer formats and new models are developing vigorously. In 2019, online retail sales reached 10.6 trillion yuan, an increase of 1.74 times over 2015. This year, online retail has been on the rise.
