Europe and the United States witnessed a record increase in the number of Coronavirus infections in recent hours, while Canada expressed its desire to increase new immigrants in the coming years to compensate for the repercussions of the virus, and Britain re-imposed restrictions on the export of vaccines.

New cases in the United States reached 100,000 and 233 new infections, which is a world record for the pandemic and exceeds the number that India reported in one day, which was 97,894 last September.

During the past ten days, the United States has surpassed 5 times its previous record in the number of daily cases, which it recorded in July, which reached 77,299 cases.

The number of new cases during the past two days indicates that the country is now registering more than one new case every second.

The record rise in the number of cases came just 4 days before the US presidential elections scheduled for next Tuesday.

The "Covid-19" pandemic accused the final stage of the election race that Republican President Donald Trump is running against his Democratic rival, Joe Biden.

It spread to Europe

In France, which is experiencing a second wave of the virus, a complete lockdown has been re-imposed across the country.

Kindergartens, schools, institutes and high schools are to remain open with enhanced health measures.

French Prime Minister Jean Castex had expected the hospitals' capacity to exceed during the next month what it was in last April.

Banning the export of vaccines

For its part, the British government announced on Friday the re-imposition of restrictions on the export of influenza vaccines to ensure the availability of sufficient numbers of them to its citizens.

The Ministry of Health said in a statement that it "took this measure in response to the huge demand for influenza vaccines from other countries."

The Minister of Health Matt Hancock said that this measure "will protect the supply of vaccines against influenza as part of our plans to provide 30 million flu vaccines before the arrival of the unprecedented winter."

The free flu vaccination program was extended this year in England due to the "Covid-19" pandemic.

The health authorities seek to reduce the risk of death in case of infection with two viruses together (influenza and Covid-19) and to avoid overburdening hospitals.

The new Corona virus caused borders to be closed in Canada and other (European) countries

Canada is attracting immigrants

As for the authorities in Canada, they announced their desire to receive a greater number of immigrants during the next three years, to compensate for the decline in the number of immigrants during 2020 due to the "Covid-19" epidemic.

On Friday, Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino said that his country plans to receive more than 1.2 million immigrants between 2021 and 2023, an increase of about 200,000 immigrants over the number that was set before the epidemic crisis.

He added in a press conference that in 2020 Canada will receive only a small part of the 341,000 immigrants it was expecting to arrive, due to the new Corona virus, which caused the border closure and the suspension of international flights for a long time.

The situation is expected to return to normal in 2021, according to the announced immigration plan, which is based mainly on economic growth, as well as on family reunification and receiving refugees.

To compensate for the decline in the number of immigrants in 2020, the government intends to grant permanent residence to asylum seekers, temporary workers, and foreign students who are currently in Canada.

"The new arrivals played an important role in our handling of Covid-19," Mendicino said, praising especially the asylum seekers who worked in the first line, the retirement homes affected by the epidemic during the spring.
