• Earthquake in Greece: strong quake measuring 6.7 off the coast of Samos, buildings collapse in Turkey

October 31, 2020The updated death toll of the strong earthquake that shook Greece and Turkey is at least 26 dead. Rescuers are still working to search for survivors in the rubble of collapsed buildings in Smyrna, the most affected area. At least 70 people have been rescued so far.



According to the Turkish Civil Protection, the dead are at least 24 and 800 injured while on the Greek island of Samos there were two victims, two teenagers overwhelmed by the collapse of a wall on their way back to school. Afad (the Turkish Authority for the management of emergencies and disasters) specified that the epicenter was recorded about 17 kilometers off the coast of Izmir, with a hypocenter at a depth of 16.5 kilometers.
