According to the U.S. Overseas Chinese News, during the epidemic, the Chinese group in Staten Island, New York enthusiastically raised funds for the frontline police, firefighting, and medical staff, and actively rushed to donate supplies. The Shidao Police Department presented awards and commendations, thanking the Chinese people for their strong support to the police and others during the crisis.

  It is reported that the Chinese group awarded this time is the "Shidao Mutual Aid Group" spontaneously formed by the residents of the island.

On the 29th, Inspector Robert Brower, the deputy commander of the Shidao Police Department, issued a certificate of commendation to the two group founders. They are Liu Zhigang, who serves at the City MRT Bureau, and Li Zhicheng, a Japanese restaurant operator in Shidao.

Inspector Broll praised the group for supporting the frontline during the worst period of the epidemic in New York, assisting the police, fire department, and medical staff in fighting the epidemic.

  Liu Zhigang introduced that the "Shidao Mutual Aid Group" was established in April by a number of Chinese residents on the island, when the epidemic in New York was at its worst.

Group members raised funds everywhere, purchased a large number of masks, gloves and hand sanitizers and presented them to many police stations, fire stations and hospitals in History Island and Brooklyn to alleviate the urgent needs on the front line.

  And when the peak of the epidemic subsided temporarily, New York caused serious anti-police sentiment due to the wave of demonstrations. The mutual aid group then presented thousands of meals to the police stations to show their support, including Shidao’s 120, 121, 122, and 123. Four sub-bureaus, Shidao highway police station, and municipal police emergency service group, etc.

  Liu Zhigang said that the "Shidao Mutual Aid Group" spontaneously formed by the islanders will continue to carry out activities, mainly serving the Chinese on the island, hoping to provide assistance in public security, elections, festival celebrations and daily life.
