President Xi Jinping delivered a video speech to the forum.
Xi Jinping pointed out that since the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, scientists from various countries have worked together to find ways to fight the epidemic. They have carried out scientific and technological research and transnational cooperation in many important areas such as treatment, drug and vaccine research and development, prevention and control, and have made significant contributions to the fight against the epidemic.
Under the current situation, it is particularly necessary to carry out research cooperation in the fields of new coronary pneumonia drugs, vaccines, and testing, focusing on common issues such as climate change and human health, so that technological innovation can better benefit mankind.
Xi Jinping emphasized that China attaches great importance to scientific and technological innovation and insists on taking innovation as the first driving force for development.
China will implement a more open, inclusive, and mutually beneficial international science and technology cooperation strategy, and is willing to work with the world's top scientists and international science and technology organizations to strengthen research on major scientific issues, increase common scientific and technological solutions, and deepen collaboration on key strategic scientific projects.
I hope that all scientists will actively exchange ideas, promote cooperation, and jointly advance the cause of world science.
The World Top Scientists Forum was initiated by the World Top Scientists Association and hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government. It has been held for two sessions.
With the theme of "Technology, for the common destiny of mankind", this forum was organized by a combination of online video and offline attendance. More than 300 scientists from around the world, including 61 Nobel Prize winners, participated in the forum.
