Freestyle’s biggest star Habib Nurmagomedov defeated Justin Gaethje last weekend and announced after his match in an emotional speech that his career is now over.

The Russian, who won all 29 matches of his career, argued that he had promised it to his mother even before meeting Gaethje.

UFC boss Dana White thinks Nurmagomedov might still be seen in the ring anyway.

- I haven't told anyone about this yet, but Habib and I have talked.

He was emotional that (match) night.

I feel like he’s still looking for a balance of 30-0, White said at the Zach Gelb Show, quoted by, among others.

The father of 32-year-old Nurmagomedov, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, died in July of the aftermath of a disease caused by a coronavirus.

He had also served as the coach of his son.

- I don't think he (Habib) will stop.

His father wanted him to reach a balance of 30-0 and I think he wanted to respect his father’s wish, White said.
