The increasing number of covid-19 cases in recent weeks has meant that the region is now taking action to curb the spread of infection.

For the next three weeks, Västsvenskarna is therefore recommended to refrain from staying in indoor environments such as shops, shopping centers, museums, libraries, bathhouses and gyms.

- We turn off showers, saunas, and urge that you do not change at our facilities, says Thomas Fredriksson, operations manager for Friskis & Svetti's facilities in Gothenburg, Mölndal and Mölnlycke.

But you do not close?

-

No, so you are still encouraged to exercise and health.

As long as you do not say that you should close, we follow the Public Health Agency's recommendations, he says.

"It's sparser here than on the sidewalk"

Kjell Kling, 71, is one of Friskis & Svetti's regular visitors.

He is in rehab for a back operation and does not intend to stop training due to the new stricter recommendations.

- I have chosen the time when there are at least people in the gym.

If you look around, it is sparser than on the sidewalk, he says.

Several large gym chains remain open

Like Friskis & Svettis, Nordic Wellness and Fysiken have also chosen not to close their facilities after Thursday's announcement.

Instead, additional measures are being implemented to reduce the spread of infection.

The gym moves parts of its workouts outdoors, puts up more distance markings and encourages visitors to diligently spray all equipment before and after use.

- In general, the members behave well, says Thomas Fredriksson.
