30 October 2020 The reports of accidents at work submitted to Inail between January and September were 366,598, down by 21.8% compared to the same period of 2019 determined in particular by the lockdown between March and May.

Of these 927 were with a fatal outcome (+ 18.8%): the increase is influenced by the number of complaints registered until the end of September due to Covid-19 infection in the workplace.

These are the data released by the Institute.

There was a decrease in the number of professional-related pathologies reported to 31,701 (-29.8%).

The reports of accidents at work submitted to Inail by last September were 366,598, a decrease of more than 102,000 cases compared to the 468,698 of the first nine months of 2019 (-21.8%).

This decrease is influenced by the sustained decline in complaints recorded between March and September, with 98 thousand fewer cases compared to the period March-September 2019 (-27.1%), mainly due to the forced stop between March and May of all production activities. considered not essential for the containment of the new Coronavirus epidemic and the difficulties encountered by companies in resuming production at full capacity in the post-lockdown period, explains the Institute.



The data as at 30 September of each year show a decrease at national level both in cases occurring during work, which went from 396.499 to 322.117 (-18.8%), and in those in progress, i.e. in the round trip between the home and workplace, which recorded a more sustained percentage drop, equal to -38.4%, from 72,199 to 44,481.

Excluding in the comparison between the two years the months of January and February, the decreases are much more marked: -23.5% for accidents at work and -47.7% for those in itinere.

As regards the fatal cases reported to the Institute in the first nine months of this year, 927 were: "despite the provisional nature of the numbers", the Institute underlines, this figure already shows an increase of 147 deaths compared to the 780 recorded in the same period of 2019 (+ 18.8%).

Compared to the first three quarters of last year, there was a reduction only in mortal accidents while commuting, which went from 217 to 151 (-30.4%), while those occurring at work increased from 563 to 776 ( + 37.8%).

The increase concerned in particular the Industry and services management (from 670 to 812 complaints).

The complaints of occupational disease registered by Inail in the first nine months of 2020 were 31,701, 13,457 less than in the same period of 2019 (-29.8%).

The decline is mainly influenced by the number of complaints presented between March and July 2020 compared to the same period in 2019. The first three occupational diseases reported continue to be pathologies of the osteo-muscular system and connective tissue (19,291 cases), of the nervous (3,493) and ear (2,017), followed by diseases of the respiratory system (1,280) and tumors (1,149);

all registered decreases.
