The Norrbotnia line will run between Umeå and Luleå, but the entire section has not yet been financed.

The first stage of 12.3 kilometers runs between Umeå's freight depot and Dåvamyran just north of the city and the cost is approximately SEK 2 billion.

As much as four million tonnes of rock will be moved and this corresponds to two Bräntberget in the city of Umeå.

- It is assessed as a national interest and therefore also worth the major interventions in nature, says Jan Lundberg.

To improve freight transport

Critics say that the Norrbotnia line is like a large labor market project financed with state money.

- Yes, it is not to keep people with work that we do this, but the purpose is that we should improve freight transport for the whole country, says Jan Lundberg and continues:

- 82 percent of Europe's iron ore comes from the ore fields in northern Sweden and the main line is already full so we believe that this will significantly improve transport.
