The Bolivian Chamber of Deputies and Senate, meeting in joint session, on Thursday (October 29th) approved a motion recommending that former interim president Jeanine Áñez and her ministers be brought to justice in response to last year's social disputes that have affected killed around thirty people.

The parliamentarians adopted a report on "the massacres of Senkata, Sacaba and Yapacaní, which recommends a judgment in responsibility against Jeanine Áñez for genocide and other crimes", indicated the Senate on its Twitter account.

Parliament also approved the criminal indictment of 11 ministers, the Senate added.

A parliamentary committee, controlled by the MAS, a movement of ex-president Evo Morales, investigated for months incidents that took place in several regions of the country between October and November 2019 and which had left some thirty dead - 35 according to an investigation by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (CIDH).

She presented her report on Tuesday, a little over a week after the new president Luis Arce, MAS candidate, took power.

The incidents had spread in the country after the presidential election of October 2019, which had renewed Evo Morales as head of the country, but also provoked opposition demonstrations denouncing fraud.

Evo Morales was forced to resign before going into exile in Mexico and then in Argentina.

The president of the Senate, Eva Copa, member of the MAS, specified that this report would be submitted to the Bolivian prosecution for the opening of a possible procedure.

She is also counting on the fact that this report will be definitively approved by the new Parliament, where the MAS retains its majority and which is due to take office next week.
