The Director of the Academic Accreditation Commission at the Ministry of Education, Dr. Muhammad Bani Yas, stated that “the commission is currently working with the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education in the United Kingdom to implement several projects related to higher education, most notably the development and issuance of the Abu Dhabi Principles for International Academic Accreditation, with the aim of making The UAE is a reference for the principles of academic accreditation in the region, in addition to another project related to joint training, and we are working with them to train evaluators, and a third for joint accreditation, as we have British universities in the country.

Finally, he explained in press statements that the work on this project came according to a memorandum of understanding signed by the Commission with the agency, last September, with the aim of benefiting from the experiences of the latter in developing quality standards for academic programs in the UAE, and to draw inspiration from the best international practices and experiences related to the same matter.

The signed Memorandum of Understanding aims to share and exchange information on the development of the higher education sector, and to cooperate in identifying and disclosing reward-awarding bodies or unlawful accreditation agencies in both countries, and to provide both parties with information that jointly contributes to assisting the Academic Accreditation Commission and the Quality Assurance Agency in carrying out their tasks within The respective authorities and departments concerned, and the exchange of data that the two sides may wish to study and take into account when establishing new programs for higher education, or when expanding the scope of existing programs, for example, by establishing branches of universities in the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.

Bani Yas stressed that the memorandum is one of the most important agreements and understandings that the Academic Accreditation Commission has been implementing since its establishment, due to the great international reputation the agency has, and its contribution to developing standards for ensuring the quality of higher education systems in many countries of the world, indicating that the commission is working Systematically to increase the base of its partnership with the long-standing commissions and quality assurance agencies in order to raise the standards for ensuring the quality of higher education in the United Arab Emirates, and to control the mechanisms for granting licenses to institutions and academic programs in the country in accordance with national priorities and the field need for labor markets.

Regarding the impact of the development introduced by the Commission on the development of academic programs that are taught in 80 countries at the state level, Bani Yas said that it "canceled some specializations, as we focused in the process of developing programs on the aspect of specialization and the scientific subject."

As for the quality of the default evaluation of higher education institutions, he explained that this type of evaluation includes many positive aspects, including arranging the files of these institutions more clearly, saving them in a safer manner, and facilitating the evaluation process, especially if the residents are from outside the country.

He added that «there are a number of aspects of the evaluation that are difficult to perform virtually, the most prominent of which is knowledge of the quality of laboratory equipment in higher education institutions and the efficiency of their work, as they must be examined directly by the evaluators, as well as field visits to know the practical and clinical training of doctors and pharmacists, as well as to make sure of The rigor of exams for students ».

Licensing standards for educational institutions

The Ministry of Education has launched a set of standards for licensing higher education institutions and accrediting their programs, with the aim of achieving the state’s directives in ensuring the quality of education in accordance with the latest international standards, and enhancing the prestigious global reputation of higher education institutions within the country.

The new licensing and accreditation standards are based on 11 aspects of the academic and administrative aspects of higher education institutions, including: governance and management, quality assurance, scientific and research activities, students, faculty, educational facilities, health, safety and environment, legal compliance and public disclosure, educational resources, And the physical capabilities of educational institutions and their viability, in addition to community service and integrity.
