Three people were killed and others were wounded today, Thursday, in a knife attack in Nice, southern France, according to city police sources.

Nice police said that the attack took place in the vicinity of the "Our Lady" church in the city center, at 9:00 am local time.

The police indicated that the attacker had been arrested and being questioned, without further details.

For his part, the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, stressed that the first data indicated that the attack was a terrorist attack.

Videos and photos posted on social media showed the French police forces surrounding the attack.

The French Interior Minister said that a security operation is underway in Nice.
