It was on April 23 that Kommunal's chief safety representative at the social administration in Gällivare, Marita Nilsson Eriksson, interrupted patient-related work with patients with suspected covid-19.

The protection stop applied to the care and nursing home "Forsgläntan" where a high risk of staff being infected with coronavirus was assessed.

Approved protective equipment was missing and they were instructed to use the municipality's self-manufactured mouth guards and visors.

- We considered that there was danger to the staff's life and health, says Nilsson Eriksson to SVT.

The Swedish Work Environment Authority lifted the stop

However, the protection stop was lifted by the Swedish Work Environment Authority at the request of Gällivare municipality.

A decision that Marita Nilsson Eriksson appealed to the administrative court.

The verdict has come and it gives the chief safety representative the right.

The assessment is that there was an immediate danger to the lives and health of the staff when working close to the patient without approved protective equipment.

- It is very important for us and confirms that we made the right assessment, says Nilsson Eriksson.
