During a speech at a ceremony marking the 125th anniversary of the birth of the hero of the Soviet Union Sorge at the Tama suburban cemetery in Tokyo, Shashkov told the ambassadors of the CIS countries that after the death of the civil wife of the intelligence officer Hanako Ishii, who looked after the grave, the rights were transferred to her niece, who died the year before last.

“This year, after certain legal procedures, the heirs of Hanako Ishii made a will to transfer the rights to this grave to the Russian Embassy in Japan.

Therefore, now we are fully responsible for this grave, ”RIA Novosti quotes the diplomat.

According to the agency, a guard of honor was exhibited at the grave of Sorge, a wreath and fresh flowers were laid, and a symbolic glass of vodka with a pie on top was placed.

In June 2019, it was reported that a portrait of scout Richard Sorge would appear on the street of Ufa, named after him, on the facade of a residential building.

It is noted that this initiative was expressed by local residents.
