The situation will be "extremely difficult" for the hospital system for two to three weeks due to the second wave of the Covid-19 epidemic, warned the chairman of the scientific council, the body which guides the government, Jean on Thursday. -François Delfraissy.
"We are going to have 15 days to three weeks extremely difficult for the health care system, it will be true in several regions of France, we had foreseen it at the level of the scientific council for several weeks now", declared the professor Delfraissy, on France Inter.
A tense situation linked in particular to several factors, including the fact that the epidemic this time affects "the entire territory", and that hospitals must continue to take care of people suffering from urgent pathologies other than Covid-19, he explained.
For the president of the scientific council, the reconfinement announced Wednesday evening by President Emmanuel Macron was a decision "adapted" to the situation.
"It is a strong decision, which we wished the scientific council, and it is fast", he estimated.
According to him, the most likely scenario is that the confinement, announced until at least December 1, ends with a curfew that would remain in place during the holiday season.
"The scenario is rather to have a confinement of this type for a month, to watch the indicators (...) and to leave the confinement with a curfew", which would remain in place until "at the beginning of January", he advanced.
Asked how the French will be able to celebrate Christmas, he said that "the end of year celebrations will be different, they will be in small groups and probably under curfew".
