According to our information, the assailant is a man in his twenties, who speaks French.

Transported in a state of absolute emergency to the hospital, he kept repeating "Allah Akhbar".

The three victims have been identified.

A few hours after the attack committed Thursday morning in the Notre-Dame basilica in Nice, Europe 1 was able to reconstruct the unfolding of the events, as well as the profile of the assailant and the victims.

While the basilica had opened at 8:30 a.m., the attack occurred around 9 a.m. 

The assailant entered the basilica in possession of a bag containing several knives.

He attacked three people, who died: 

  • A 70-year-old church regular who was beheaded

  • The man of about 45, who was slaughtered, is the sacristan of the basilica

  • The third victim, a woman of about 30, was "stabbed" and died of her injuries at a nearby bar

The author speaks French and has repeated "Allah Akhbar" several times.

At around 9:05 am, a few minutes after the attack, the municipal police intervened by opening fire on the assailant to neutralize him.

At 9:30 am, the local RAID antenna arrived on site in search of possible other authors.

They found inside a second bag, which was cleared and in which they found two kitchen knives.

Other bags, present on the scene, are being cleared.

According to our information, the perpetrator of the attack is a man of the "North African type", about 25 years old.

He speaks French, claims to be called Brahim and has admitted the facts.

It does not have any identity paper or telephone.

The technical and scientific police are mobilized to try to confirm his identity. 

He was transported to a city hospital in a state of absolute emergency and his room is secured by personnel from the national police.

During his transfer, the man kept repeating "Allah Akhbar".
