Emmanuel Macron, who went to the Basilica in Nice a few hours after the attack which left three dead, denounced "an Islamist terrorist attack".

The President of the Republic also brought "the support of the whole nation to the Catholics". 

Emmanuel Macron denounced Thursday "an Islamist terrorist attack", a few hours after the attack which left three dead in the morning at the Notre-Dame basilica in Nice. 

"I mean here, first and foremost, the support of the whole nation for Catholics in France and elsewhere," added the President of the Republic, in front of the church where the attack took place in the Riviera city.

"After the assassination of Father Hamel in the summer of 2016, it is once again the Catholics who are attacked in our country, threatened", added the Head of State, affirming that "the whole nation is stands by their side and will stand so that religion can continue to be exercised freely in our country ".
