Due to an increased spread of infection in society, and more confirmed cases of covid-19, stricter advice is now being introduced for certain regions.

These are the Stockholm, Västra Götaland and Östergötland regions.

- In recent weeks, we have seen an increase in the number of confirmed cases in Stockholm.

It was almost an eighty percent increase to the week that has just ended, says Maria Rotzén Östlund, acting infection control doctor in the Stockholm region.

The new councils apply from today to the mentioned regions.

Among other things, it is about refraining from staying in shops, shopping centers and gyms.

Only necessary visits to food and pharmacies can be made.

The tightened regions apply until 19 November, but may be extended.

More are sampled

In the country, the spread of infection is increasing and at the same time more people are being sampled.

From having tested around 20,000 people this spring, around 160,000 are now being tested per week, announced state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell.

- A sign that the spread in Sweden is increasing more and more is that a large proportion of those who are sampled are actually positive and have covid-19 has gone up from 3-4 percent to just over 5 percent, which indicates that we unfortunately has an increasing spread in society, says Anders Tegnell.

"Worrying development"

According to the new restrictions, you should also avoid physical contact with people other than those you live with.

Among other things, this means refraining from parties, after work and similar social gatherings.

In Västra Götaland, there has been a marked increase in the number of new cases, says the region's infection control doctor Thomas Wahlberg.

Among other things, there has been an increase in patients in need of intensive care.

- It is a worrying development.

Inpatients in Västra Götaland have seen an increase, which is almost a doubling of the number of inpatient cases compared with the previous week, says Thomas Wahlberg.

"Does not keep enough physical distance"

The infection tracing work that has taken place has been based on workplaces, various parties or other social gatherings, says Thomas Wahlberg.

- All in all, it can be said that it has been very fast to get this rapid spread of infection.

This means that we now have to break this in every way as strongly as we can, says Thomas Wahlberg.

In the Östergötland region, intensive work with infection tracing has been ongoing, says infection control doctor Britt Åkerlind during today's press conference.

She announces that there is currently a wide spread of society.

- This is a result of us all not keeping a sufficient physical distance, most people could have a great opportunity to do this, says Britt Åkerlind.

Retains the 50 limit

Last week, the government announced that the audience limit, which had been 50 spectators, would be raised to 300 people from 1 November.

But not all regions will raise that limit.

Region Skåne, Uppsala, Stockholm, Västra Götaland and Östergötland retain the rule of a maximum of 50 people.

The reason is the increased spread of infection.
