The Islamic Resistance Movement "Hamas" said Wednesday that the social networking site Twitter has blocked many active Palestinian accounts under Israeli pressure.

"Unfortunately, and under Israeli pressure, the Twitter platform has banned many active Palestinian accounts, including mine in English," Basem Naeem, a member of the movement’s international relations office, said in a statement.

He added that "this is the same policy that the Facebook platform has been following for years, with the aim of eliminating the Palestinian narrative and the reality of the hideous and racist occupation."

"We would really like it if this was part of the freedom of expression with which they have clapped our heads for years," he said.

The Palestinian leader called on the management of the Twitter platform "to adhere to objectivity and not to respond to any pressure from any party, and to lift the ban on the banned accounts."

Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp have shut down the pages and accounts of dozens of Palestinian journalists and activists during the recent period.

The London-based Impact International Foundation for Human Rights Policies accused Israel last year of "employing its relationships with Facebook to combat Palestinian content in the blue cyberspace."

And in 2018, the Israeli Ministry of Justice announced that the Facebook administration responded in 2017 to nearly 85% of Israel's requests to remove, ban, and provide data on Palestinian content.
