Today, Thursday, a Saudi stabbed a security guard at the French consulate in Jeddah (western Saudi Arabia) before being arrested by security forces, and the incident comes amid tensions, which were sparked by the insulting cartoons of the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, in France.

The Saudi Press Agency quoted a statement by the Makkah Province police that the attacker, who was in his forties, assaulted the guard with a sharp object, which resulted in light injuries and was taken to hospital.

The statement said that the perpetrator was arrested by the Special Force for Diplomatic Security and that legal measures have been taken against him, without specifying the nationality of the security guard.

The stabbing incident took place in Jeddah shortly after a white weapon attack in Nice (southern France), killing 3 people.

The French embassy condemned the stabbing, describing it as unjustified, indicating that the health status of the security guard is not a cause for concern.

The embassy expressed - in a statement - its confidence in the Saudi authorities in the investigations that they are conducting about the attack, and to ensure the security of the French institutions and community in the Kingdom, and called on French citizens in Saudi Arabia to be alert.

It is noteworthy that, last year, a Yemeni resident in Saudi Arabia stabbed 4 Spaniards with a knife during a theater performance in a park in Riyadh, and the man was executed last April.

Yesterday, the US embassy in the UAE called on its citizens in this Gulf country to exercise extreme caution in light of the possibility of terrorist groups targeting Americans in the Gulf, according to the embassy statement.
