Former President Lee Myung-bak, whose jail sentence was confirmed in the Supreme Court on the 29th for taking large bribes and embezzling company funds from Samsung, etc., is once imprisoned in the Eastern Detention Center in Seoul after being summoned by the prosecution.

When the sentence was confirmed that day, former President Lee issued a statement and said, “The rule of law has collapsed. I am worried about the future of the country.” “I went to trial because of the expectation that the judiciary was the last bastion of liberal democracy.” “The Supreme Court is not fair. It wasn't even just right."

He said, "The truth will surely be revealed."

Earlier on this day, the Supreme Court confirmed the court sentence of 17 years in prison, a fine of 13 billion won, and an additional fine of 5.78 billion won in the appeal of the former President, who was charged with bribery under the Specific Crimes Weighted Penalty Act.

However, considering the precedent, the actual imprisonment will not take place immediately on the day of the sentence, and it is expected to take 3-4 days.

Former President Lee has been tried in disrepair after reappealing the court's decision to cancel bail in February.

According to the Criminal Procedure Act, when a person sentenced to imprisonment, like former President Lee, is not in custody, it is required to be summoned to execute the sentence.

Accordingly, the prosecution must go through separate enforcement procedures to imprison former President Lee.

The Supreme Prosecutors' Office is scheduled to commission the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, who prosecuted former President Lee, to command the execution of the sentence.

The Central District Prosecutor's Office summons former President Lee for execution and goes through the procedure of entering the Eastern Detention Center.

Since the court ruling takes effect at the same time as the sentence, the prosecution can go straight into execution.

However, the prosecution is expected to give former President Lee time to organize his personal affairs.

The prosecution will coordinate the execution schedule with former President Lee.

Former President Lee said, "I have a schedule to go to the hospital tomorrow and receive a prescription for medicine," and said, "I want to attend the weekday Monday after the weekend."

On the day of imprisonment, former President Lee is expected to move directly from his home to the detention center without attending the competent prosecutor's office.

According to the Supreme Prosecutor's'Guidelines for the handling of punishment for free-formed persons', when summoned for execution, they are required to attend the competent prosecutor's office and then move to the detention center.

However, if it is not appropriate to be summoned or recruited by the competent prosecutor's office, it can be summoned immediately to a detention center or prison.

Former President Lee is scheduled to be transferred to the prison after being imprisoned in the Seoul Eastern Detention Center, after the correctional authorities have classified prisoners.

Former President Lee was sentenced to 17 years in prison in the Supreme Court, but since he has already been imprisoned for about a year in jail, the remaining imprisonment period is about 16 years.
