Clashes erupted Wednesday at the Vienna toll (Isère), on the A7, blocked since the beginning of the morning by pro-Armenia activists.

"At least one person was injured by a hammer-type object," we learned from the gendarmerie, while local media reported the arrival on site of supporters of Turkey.

Several dozen people have been counted, according to the Dauphiné Libéré.

The demonstration escalated when members of the Turkish community passing through called for reinforcements, armed with knives and hammers.

The fear of a second Armenian genocide

Traffic on the A7 motorway was blocked Wednesday morning in both directions at the toll.

At around 7:30 am, traffic jams were forming both in the direction of Lyon and Marseille, said the traffic information service Bison futé.

A protester, using the first name only Arthur, explained that the rally was motivated by the fear that a "second genocide" is happening in Armenia.

“We want it to stop.

We want peace, ”he told AFP.

The Armenian community is demanding international recognition of the separatist enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh (or Artsakh), populated by Armenians but attached to Azerbaijan.
