One week before the presidential election in the United States, the Democrats hope to be able to win in North Carolina, a traditionally Republican state that Donald Trump had won with nearly four points in advance in 2016. The polls are very close there.

Two main factors give hope for a possible victory for Democrats in this state.

First of all, demographic change, with the increasing weight of graduate populations, more inclined

to vote Democrats

, who have come from other states to work in this state on the East Coast.

The disaffection of women in the residential suburbs for the president may also play a role.

They had largely contributed to the victory of Donald Trump, but the provocative style, his lies displease these Americans.

"

When I arrived from New York twenty years ago, we were the only Democrats in the neighborhood, but since then a lot of young graduates have moved in and the situation has changed,

" said Sherry Shavor, who holds the office of the Democratic Party at Holly Spirit, a suburb of Raleigh.

The retired piano teacher assures him: even some of her Republican neighbors will vote for Joe Biden in secret from their husband.

They blame him for

his management of the coronavirus pandemic

: "

We are the ones who worry about our parents, for our children, and to see Donald Trump minimize the danger is unbearable to us

", storm Christine Kelly, homemaker of Holly Spirit.

The president's attitude towards

the anti-racist movement Black Lives Matter

also shocked this electorate who was made aware of

issues of racial justice

.

But nothing is settled: many voters, without being enthusiastic about Donald Trump, prefer to grant him a second term rather than vote for

Joe Biden, whom they consider too left

.

In any case, participation promises to be very high: 43% of voters who had taken part in the ballot four years ago

have already voted in advance
