The security company Gunnebo, which was hired by the Riksdag and several major banks, was subjected to a cyber attack - which led to the leaks.

The company demanded money and when they refused to give in to the extortion, the information was published online.

In Tuesday's Aktuellt, Interior Minister Mikael Damberg (S) called the incident "serious" and said that it must be more difficult for criminals to access information worthy of protection.

- If you sort information based on protection class so that the most worthy of protection is not openly connected to the internet, you will not be affected in this way.

We have to raise the level of knowledge, that is the most important but perhaps not the sexiest work that needs to be done, he says.

"Security center in place this year"

An earlier report from the Armed Forces, Säpo and MSB points out that there are a number of shortcomings with cyber security in Sweden - including a lack of competence.

Therefore, the government is now taking measures to strengthen the capacity in the area, among other things by setting up a so-called cyber security center, says Damberg:

- By bringing together authorities in such a center, you get stronger capacity.

The Prime Minister has been clear, in 2019 he said that this year we will have a cyber security center - and it will happen.

"Government slow"

But the Moderates' defense policy spokesman Pål Jonson thinks that the government has been far too slow to get a center in place.

- All other Nordic countries already have operational cyber security centers, while we in Sweden are nowhere near having one.

The government has not returned regarding location and they have only given the authorities half as much in the budget as has been requested, Jonson says to SVT.

But Damberg does not think that the Moderates' criticism is relevant.

- It is an incorrect description.

We have presented a budget proposal to the Swedish Parliament where we propose investments in building a center.

But it is not the case that our authorities do not work together.

They have already been commissioned and are working together.
