The spread of infection has picked up speed again around Sweden.

Region Skåne announced earlier on Tuesday that it is tightening the recommendations at the same time as the number of confirmed cases in the Stockholm and Västra Götaland region has almost doubled in the past week.

In that situation, giving the opportunity to increase the limit for crowds to 300 people and also be open for visits to nursing homes increases the risk that the spread will be accelerated further, says Johan Styrud, chief physician at Danderyd Hospital and chairman of the Stockholm Medical Association.

He believes that the stricter recommendations that now only apply in Scania and Uppsala should be introduced throughout Sweden.

- It is perhaps easier if the whole nation does the same thing and not just certain regions.

After all, the numbers are rising rapidly, so it is important that Sweden sees itself as a unit.

Tegnell: Group with small spread of infection

He understands that many of those aged 70 and over would once again feel compelled to comply with restrictions.

- We must be fair as far as we can, but in a pandemic you can not be completely fair.

- The elderly should not be affected in the same way as last spring.

State epidemiologist Anders Tegnell does not share the view that the recommendations for society's older people must be sharpened again.

- It is a group that has a fairly small spread of infection and is well aware of the risks that exist.

When it comes to audience relief, he points out that the regions can decide on their own to maintain the level of 50 people.

- For example, Skåne is now making the decision not to raise the border, so there is an opportunity to deal with it.
