Infection is increasing in many countries, not least in the EU area.

The situation is particularly worrying in the Czech Republic, Belgium and Spain.

- It goes very fast in many countries.

And there are many countries that are much harder hit now than last spring.

One such example is the Czech Republic, says Tegnell.

Increasing in Sweden

The coronavirus' progress is also increasing again in Sweden.

Anders Tegnell talks about a 70% increase in confirmed cases in one week.

- It is partly due to increased sampling, but there is definitely an increased spread of infection in parts of society that we must be helped to get control of.

Particularly affected are Skåne, Uppsala and Stockholm.

Local restrictions

- We have made a decision at the Swedish Public Health Agency to have stricter advice in Skåne, similar to those in Uppsala, says Anders Tegnell.

At the press conference, Tegnell is asked if more local restrictions can be introduced and the state epidemiologist answers that talks are being held with the regions but does not want to go further into the matter.

However, Tegnell says that if there are too many regional regulations, it should be replaced by a unified national line.

Strained on iva

The number of admissions to the intensive care units is also increasing.

SVT Nyheter has previously reported on an almost doubling of the number of covid patients on IVA during the past week.

- The load has increased.

The situation is under control but that does not prevent it from being strained in many places that we have heard from, for example, Skåne, says Iréne Nilsson Carlsson, public health advisor at the National Board of Health and Welfare.
