There is a false narrative, but very effective, that links all of
Donald Trump's
opponents
to the system or the
establishment
, as he puts it.
For the narrative to be effective, it must have some truth.
Let's see.
Since an actor turned politician named
Ronald Reagan
left the White House, two families have haunted the Oval Office with greater or lesser fortune: the
Bushes
, father and son, and the
Clintons
, husband and wife, the last frustrated as the first president in the history of the United States.
Barack Obama
, the country's first black president, did represent a break in the future of the presidency, but can we say the same about
Joe Biden
, who was Obama's own vice president?
Isn't it a continuation of the same political family?
On the other side we have
Donald Trump
, calling himself "the president of the people," the "anti-establishment."
But can we consider anti-system a millionaire who has raised his fortune precisely by taking advantage of the system?
These elections revolve around a figure who calls war heroes cowards without having served in the military, who presents himself as the voice of the people being the richest president since the independence of the United States, and who assures that he is the preferred leader of the history of the United States when it did not even win the popular vote, something that had only happened with
Adams
in 1824,
Hayes
in 1876,
Harrison
in 1888 and
Bush
in 2000. As we see, the narratives do not always agree with reality.
In the second episode of this podcast we have
Fátima Ruiz
, section chief for Internacional en el Mundo and
Gina Montaner
, collaborator and columnist for this newspaper in Miami.
Finally, we make a call to our correspondent,
Pablo Pardo
, to tell us how the electoral thermometer is, the polls, and how they will determine the final strategies of the candidates during these last days before November 3.
