He stressed that Moscow remains committed to a consistent position on the full compliance of 9M729 with the requirements of the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles (INF Treaty).

"The Russian Federation, nevertheless, is ready, in good faith, to continue not to deploy 9M729 missiles in the European part of the country, but only on condition of reciprocal steps from NATO countries," Putin said in a statement.

According to him, these measures should exclude the deployment of weapons in Europe, previously prohibited by agreement.

The head of state also proposed to consider specific options for mutual verification measures to remove existing concerns. 

In August, the Foreign Ministry noted that threats to global stability and security have grown significantly in the year since the US withdrawn from the INF Treaty.
