  • The Regional Health Agency promises reinforcements for these medico-social establishments in Hauts-de-France.

  • Health students or staff with time are invited to volunteer for paid assignments.

  • Antigen testing will be available for staff at these facilities.

Relieve those who relieve.

Since the start of the coronavirus epidemic, the staff of health establishments have been mobilized to face the crisis.

While most were already experiencing tense working conditions before Covid-19, the epidemic has accentuated the exhaustion of health professionals.

After a brief summer lull, the second wave is once again filling hospitals and causing trouble in social medical establishments such as nursing homes.

The Hauts-de-France Regional Health Agency (ARS) is trying to find solutions, including the recruitment of health students to strengthen the healthcare teams.

The white plan has already been launched in all hospitals in the European Metropolis of Lille (MEL), freeing up beds for Covid-19 patients.

The deprogramming of operations deemed non-essential does not, however, free up staff time.

In addition to hospitals, what are called medico-social establishments, such as nursing homes, are also particularly affected, in particular because of the vulnerability of their residents.

Reinforcements and antigenic tests

For the 60,000 or so staff in nursing homes, specialized reception homes (MAS), nursing homes (FAM) and home nursing services, the ARS will deploy antigenic tests as of next week that allow to get a result within half an hour, instead of 24 to 48 hours.

A speed which generates a better reactivity for the implementation of isolation measures for sick personnel and limit the risks of patient contamination.

But if a vacuum is created on one side, it must be filled on the other.

Thus, the ARS appeals to health students and professionals with free time.

Those who can are invited to volunteer to "reinforce the teams of health or medico-social establishments as of now as part of a short, paid mission", explains the agency.

During the first wave, we had thus seen medical students from Lille coming to strengthen the ranks of the Samu call platform.

Registrations are made directly on a dedicated website of the Ministry of Health.
