October 26, 2020The moderates of the Union of the Fatherland-Lithuanian Christian Democrats (center-right to the opposition) prevailed in Sunday's parliamentary elections in Lithuania, paving the way for an all-female ruling coalition.
The Union of the Fatherland-Lithuanian Christian Democrats won 49 seats out of 141 in Parliament in the second round, while the Center-Left Union of Farmers and Greens (outgoing majority) 32.
Former Finance Minister Ingrida Simonyte, candidate of the Christian Democrats to prime minister, should now build a majority coalition with two liberal parties, both
led by women, which have won 12 and 11 seats respectively.
